" Beautiful cottage and well stocked on baby gear for our 15 week old twin boys....plus the dogs. Think we were blessed with the best "uncertain" weather in GB. Very little rain and we had dry days for our visits which were to the lakes in the village, Beadnell beach(great for dogs), Alnwick Castle&Gardens, The Tree House, Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle, Warkworth Castle and Alnmouth. All in all a great holiday, lovely cottage, area and people!" Nick, Melissa and the twins and the pups. June 2013

" Not so much a holiday cottage as a beautiful and very welcoming home from home. We have loved every minute of our stay and are all feeling much repaired after a long cold winter! All four of us voted in favour of a return to Northumberland Cottage. Thank you so much." Jo, Joe, Fergus and Wilf. April 2013

" We have enjoyed our stay in Northumberland Cottage very much. Every detail has been made to make anyone staying here as welcome as possible. The fire was great, and once lit just carried on adding to the cosy feel of this lovely place. Thank you Laura for your warm welcome and plentiful hamper on arrival" Jude and Pip Shropshire November 2012

" Another lovely weekend here, we love the cottage it feels like we are staying with friends. It is so cosy and warm and there are beautiful walks and bike rides right outside the door. We used the bikes this time and had a nice ride and the weather was sunny and crisp, just perfect for it. Love this place- thanks so much for making it so cosy and accomodating!" " We have thoroughly enjoyed our week in Northumberland and will no doubt be talking about it for weeks, months and years to come!" August 2012

" We have had a wonderful week here. The welcome provisions were perfect and helped us settle in to our lovely holiday. Our two children, aged 22 months and four, have loved the toys both in the house and in the garden. Many an hour was passed chasing each other round the garden table! Laura knows how to make you feel truly at home and that is very much appreciated. We will definitely be back for more!!" July 2012

" We had an amazing family holiday in Northumberland Cottage. Everything has been fantastic from the much appreciated welcome pack to all the equipment and toys that have kept the children amused. Both our teens and toddler have made much use of the bikes, garden toys, duplo, jenga, monopoly and books. It was nice to see our teens play with boardgames instead of blackberries and ipads!! Northumberland Cottage is a great base to discover the area. We enjoyed trips to Holy Island, Newton by the Sea, Seahouses, Linhope Spout and our favorite outing being to the birds of prey centre at The Barn at Beal. The cottage was very good value for money and we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back again soon" Shelagh Mark, Mattie, Lewis and Jasmine July 2012

" Wonderful cottage with all the added extras making it even more perfect!! had a jam packed week-Alnwick Castle+Gardens, Bamburgh Castle and beaches(complete with buckets and spades and sledges on the sand dunes all provided) and Cragside. The bikes were great fun and allowed Adam(6) to gain new found confidence. Just foiled by the weather in our aim of an evening in the pub. Thank you very much for enabling us to have such a carefree week. Looking forward to coming back soon! Judith, Sam, Mark and Adam Lancaster" June 2012

" We've had a lovely few days in this super cottage. We liked everything about it and the welcome pack was an added bonus. We enjoyed visiting Ford and Etal, the coast, Rothbury and Wooler. The weather was much better than expected. We only wish we could stay for a week or longer. We shall be back!!! Thank you. Steve, Chris and Sophie" May 2012

" We have had a great holiday in your cosy cottage! The kids enjoyed all the toys and books through the wet and showery couple of days. We loved walking down the lane to seee the animals and it was an added bonus to wake up and see the baby calves playing in the field across the road. The welcome pack was much appreciated! People love Northumberland Cottage! From our visitor's book/e mails:

"We've thoroughly enjoyed our first family holiday in Northumberland! The cottage is fab- every need or detail has been thought of- and next time we will pack much more lightly! We loved the welcome pack of food and the log burner. Seahouses was the best day with blue skies and a new bag of buckets and spades hung on the front door for us. We will definitely be returning! Sue, Dave & Theo, Middlesbrough. October 2011"

"We have spent a very enjoyable few days at the cottage and must say that it is one of the best equipped that we have stayed in- and we have stayed in many! It is lovely to have all those little extras. The dogs loved the cosy bed provided for them. The bikes were an added bonus also. Thanks for everything! L,J,T and the Westies. Ilkley W. "I just wanted to email and say a big thank you, we had a brilliant time at Northumberland Cottage. After searching for hours over a period of a few weeks, I was thrilled when I found your site. I was so looking forward to our week there and it really exceeded my expectations. It is a wonderful cottage, M and I both commented how at home we felt, which made the last week of our holiday so relaxing and a real pleasure. I saw that lots of people commented on how friendly and helpful you'd been, and that's been my experience too, when you called to say where I could find the dressing gowns, I thought it wouldn't be a problem if we didn't have them, but it was "little" things like that that made our week so special. It really does make things more relaxing to have a dressing gown, not to mention hand and body cream, wonderful books, bubble bath, a digital radio and a very generous welcome pack, thank you. And thank you for all the information about the cottage and area and the tip about the home cooked food at the local Londis! It really shows that you spend time enjoying the property as absolutely everything you need, and lots more, is there and to hand.

My girls loved their rooms, all the toys and the ride on toys (in the garden and bedroom), the Mr Men dvd, the little animal cups and colourful plastic plates and cups... the list goes on, we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, fantastic weather in amazing surroundings and your cottage made it all even more special."

"I just wanted to write and thank you for making our stay at the cottage so wonderful. From the welcome pack to the furnishings and children’s toys, it really was the perfect place to stay, you have thought of everything. We loved exploring the local area on the bikes, Livvie learnt to ride on the little red bike, so that had to be taken everywhere with us!! And the log burner was a real treat. Thank you again, I hope you will let us come back...will be finding out when October half term is when I take the children to school tomorrow!! "

"This has been a magical stay for us, very relaxing and comfortable. Felt like a home from home. Our only disappointment was that we only had half a week. We hope to return and will recommend the cottage to friends."

"...Travelling with an 18 month old is never easy but coming here was relatively stress free. Having toys and nursery equipment to use has made the weekend relaxing for mum and dad....one more lovely evening of a roaring fire, glass of wine....ahh! we'll miss this place!"

"Thank you, you've made our stay here really lovely. The duvets and sheets were heavenly, the bikes brilliant... all the little things made all the difference. You have struck just the right balance here. The house and furnishings are lovely... the log burner is great... we're very much impressed with the care you have taken to make us feel welcome"

"Two adults and three children from Norway have spent some very nice days here. The cottage is extraordinary, both charming and practical. This part of Northumberland was ideal for a family holiday. We have been cycling, walking, looking at castles, sheep and rabbits. Happy valley was a beautiful place and the coastline is amazing. Thanks for all the information both on the web site and at the cottage. And many thanks to Anna for being friendly and helpful by e-mail. We really enjoyed our stay."

"Family Moon with E aged 7 and W aged 2 had a fantastic week. The variety of activities in the cottage for both boys was wonderful and only a week to do them - we shall have to come back and do some we have missed soon. We can heartily recommend the Tankerville Arms in Eglingham - not the cheapest perhaps, but good food is always good value!"

The Moon Family, Luton, July 2006

"The perfect cottage in the perfect location! We have just spent a fantastic week of exploring this part of Northumberland. The coast is amazing and there are enough castles to content even the most enthusiastic Knight. The cottage was definitely the best we've ever stayed in - so well equipped, particularly with regard to children who really enjoyed reading the books and playing with the games. We can't wait to come back and visit all the places we didn't have time to explore. We only wish we had booked for two weeks not one!

A big thank you - we will definitely be recommending you to our family and friends."

The Simmonds Family: Liz, Simon, Edward (7) and Francesca (2), Glasshouses, North Yorkshire, August 2006

"Thank you for everything, this has been one of our very best vacations ever! The (2 week) visit exceeded all expectations. The cottage is so beautiful and comfortable. A perfect starting point to endless explorations, as well as a cozy haven on a rainy day to drink tea, read and sit by the fire. Thank you Anna and Bill for all the thoughtful details which have made the stay so special. The web site and grey binder are fantastic resources. The delicious basket of food and cut flowers made us feel right at home. Our two teenage sons love it here as much as we do. Here are a few highlights:

  • picnic atop windy East Hill
  • five mile hike along Hadrian's Wall
  • picnic in the dunes then a tour of Bamburgh Castle
  • watching two hares bound across the fields like kangaroos
  • friendly chats with David, the proprietor of the Good Life Health Food shop in Wooler
  • overnight stay in Edinburgh seeing the Tattoo
  • day trip to Glasgow and tour of the School of Arts
  • rainy trek to Dunstanburgh castle

...so much more! We will cherish these memories... Cheers!"

"Hi Anna, we had a wonderful stay at your cottage. I managed to plough through three of your books and enjoyed them so much. We accidentally went for a 7 mile cycle one of the days - we'd only intended to cycle to Powburn for lunch! All in all, it truly is a home away from home. Thank you."
